Become an MCS member in just 12 working days

MCS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need to hold certification against PAS 2030 to apply for certification under The IAA MCS Scheme?
No. To apply for MCS Certification you just need to meet the eligibility criteria. However, if you are already PAS 2030 Certified by The IAA then your Annual PAS and MCS audits will be coordinated where possible.

How long will it take to achieve Certification?
If all the scheme requirements are met then Certification could be achieved in as little as 12 working days.

Do The IAA provide consumer Guarantees for MCS installations?
Yes. Microgeneration equipment is usually covered by a manufacturer’s warranty and workmanship must be covered under an MCS approved Guarantee.

Do I have to register with a Consumer Code before Certification can be granted?
Yes. We now offer IAA Microgeneration Guarantees are now being issued and are available to IAA certificated members and members of other certification schemes recognised by The IAA, where applicants sign up and comply with the guarantee scheme Terms and Conditions. For more information visit our Microgeneration Guarantee Page.

Do The IAA offer an MCS Competent Persons Scheme to allow me to self-certify compliance with the Building Regulations?
No. The complex nature of Microgeneration technologies means that multiple Building Regulations requirements may need to be satisfied (for example Part P covering electrical circuits).

Can The IAA offer further guidance on the systems I need to have in place to satisfy the scheme criteria?
Absolutely. The IAA can offer guidance and toolbox talks on how to comply with the Scheme requirements but the strict rules that govern our UKAS Certification means that we cannot offer consultancy services or help you develop your procedures.
